Donut Towel – A Fun Upgrade for the Beach

DIY Donut Towel for the Beach | We're Going to Make itI’m all about this DIY donut towel. As you know, I’m a little donut crazy, but as you might not know, I’m a bit of a health nut too. You’re probably going to hate me for saying this but, I like to eat vegetables.DIY Donut Towel for the Beach | We're Going to Make itDIY Donut Towel for the Beach | We're Going to Make itThat isn’t to say I don’t indulge in a donut or two every once in a while (let’s be honest, it would probably be weekly if I lived by Voodoo Doughnuts). I’ve found that it is all about balance. Fill your body with good for you foods and then enjoy that treat. Or, better yet, find a healthy version of the “junk” food. Like this delicious looking Vegan Chocolate Donut I found on Positive Health Wellness. I love scrolling through body wellness websites, such as Positive Health Wellness as they are well informed and are chock full of recipe ideas, workout tips, nutrition information and so much more. If you’re into wellness or healthy donuts then you should go check them out! Now, onto my version of a healthy donut 😉DIY Donut Towel for the Beach | We're Going to Make it

Materials:

  • Two plain brown towels
  • Two plain pink towels
  • Two smaller hand towels in various colors
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Scissors

How to make this donut towel:

  1. Start by laying out the two brown towels side by side. Sew them together down the middle by using a simple running stitch.
  2. Cut the brown towels into a circle, making sure to avoid the area that you  just stitched.DIY Donut Towel | We're Going to Make it
  3. For the pink towels, I laid them out on top of the brown to see how much of one towel would fit for the frosting. Overlap the second towel with the first to fill in the rest of the donut. Then I took my scissors and cut the 3 of the sides into a wave pattern. Do this with both towels, making sure to trim any excess off the second towel.DIY Donut Towel | We're Going to Make itDIY Donut Towel | We're Going to Make it
  4. Sew the two pink towels together at the seam.
  5. Taking your smaller hand towels, cut out little rectangles to serve as sprinkles. I think I did about 8 in each color.DIY Donut Towel | We're Going to Make it
  6. Sew each of the sprinkles onto the pink towel. I just put one stitch in to speed up the process but you might want to do a couple to make sure it is secure.
  7. Once all your sprinkles are sewn on, sew the pink frosting onto the brown donut.
  8. Take the beach and lay out in the sun!

Follow Us Around: Apple Picking

Apple picking

It’s is officially fall!! Phew, now I don’t look so silly with all my fall and Halloween decorations up, or adding pumpkin spice to my oatmeal every morning, or burning fall candles…

Apple picking at Drew Farms

Am I the only one who starts fall a few weeks early?? Once September hits, the summer is pretty much over and hello leaves/acorns/pumpkins galore. We even got our first apple cider doughnut before the first real day of fall and I was not the least bit mad.

Over the weekend Rose and I had a Skidmore in Boston get together with fellow graduates that live in the area. The event was to go apple picking at Drew Farm, so naturally we signed up right away and showed up early and eager to go a picking.

The apples were definitely ripe and ready to be picked, at least the mcintosh apples, which, let’s be honest, are the best. We had no trouble filling our bag to the brim. We also might have sampled an apple or two whilst picking.

Once we decided we couldn’t fit any more apples in our bag, we headed back to where the Skidmore group was located and got to enjoy some apple cider doughnuts and apple cider. It was just glorious. I haven’t had an apple cider doughnut or apple cider in a really long time… too long. I forgot what I was missing! Needless to say that probably won’t be my only doughnut of the season.

Now we have a huge bowl full of yummy apples that are begging to be made into a pie or tart or something sweet. And now that it is officially fall I can bake one without any shame or celebrating the changing season too early!

gourds

Look at all those gourds! We were so tempted to by some little pumpkins at the farm but decided we best wait so they don’t just sit and rot in our hot apartment.. soon though, soon my little pumpkins.

Happy fall everyone!
