What I Ate Wednesday: Fall Comfort Food 10/7/15

Oh my goodness. I know it’s not even that cold yet but brrr! It’s only the third week of fall and we are piled under every blanket we own and wearing multiple socks at a time. My toesies are cold! We tried to turn on our heat over the weekend as we live in a very poorly insulated apartment (and we are weenies) but we found out our heater is broken. So double socks it is! The one good thing about finding out our heat isn’t working now is that once the real cold and snow kicks in it will (hopefully) be fixed. Since we were shivering away we needed some comfort food. Read below to see what we ate to warm us up.

Oatmeal bowlBreakfast: Oatmeal with cinnamon, apples, bananas, and blueberries. There is nothing like a nice warm bowl of oatmeal in the morning when it is colder outside. I sliced my apples and heated them up with the oatmeal so they were slightly cooked. It tasted like an apple pie!

Starbucks LatteSnack: Starbucks graham latte. Okay I am a fan. I don’t like the pumpkin spice latte, but this one YUM. Has anyone else had it yet? We were out doing our weekly grocery shop andย finally decided to try it. I’m already craving another one..

Sweet Green's saladLunch: Sweetgreen’s seasonal apple, pear, and cheddar salad. We grabbed lunch after we went grocery shopping because we were avoiding heading back to our cold apartment. We both tried the new seasonal salad at Sweetgreen and loved it!

Apple chipsSnack: Apple chips! We were baking some things in our kitchen and decided to try and make some apple chips from some apples we still have leftover from apple picking. We tossed some in cinnamon and some in nutritional yeast for a cheddar flavor. Yum!

ChiliDinner: Soup, of course! The best way to warm up is to have a big bowl of soup. Also in an effort to use up some of our apples we made this autumn chicken apple cider chili. We modified the recipe a little bit because we weren’t using a crockpot. We also added some carrots and celery. It came out delicious and definitely hit the spot!

Wine and popcornDessert: Wine and popcorn. My favorite pairing – well and a little bit of chocolate in there too ๐Ÿ˜‰

Sorry about some of the not so great iphone pictures. I also just realized every picture is taken in a different location… not sure how that happened but oh well! Hope you enjoyed this post and if you want to see other what I ate Wednesday posts check out this post. Thanks Peas And Crayons and Clean Eats, Fast Feets for hosting the link party!

so much comfort food! I am in the mood for a good chicken and noodle and yours look wonderful!
I haven’t heard of a “graham” latte, but I need to look for it. Is it smore-ish? The peppermint lattes are my fav!

I love a good chicken and noodle soup once the weather is slightly cooler. They sell it at Starbucks and yes it tastes like a s’mores! The graham flavor is really apparent and makes it super delicious! Yum I love the peppermint lattes as well – can’t wait for them to be out again (although that will mean winter and snow and colder temperatures)!

Oh my gosh Graham latte?!?! I haven’t had it OR heard about it!!! Is it everywhere? I must try it. I am not a fan of the PSL’s, but have you had the Chestnut Praline one at christmastime?! OH MY JESUS. It is amazing! ๐Ÿ™‚

Apple in chili!? AMAZING! You definitely do a cold apartment/fall day up right! Lattes are my everything, especially on a cool day. And I almost said “no chocolate!?” when you showed your evening snack… until I read your next sentence. Nicely done!

I know the apples in the chili were amazing! I was a little hesitant about it but it was sooo good. Thanks! I know lattes are a delicious treat when it is chilly outside. Can’t forget the chocolate ๐Ÿ˜‰

I feel the weather talk on this post! It randomly got really cold here in San Diego this week. And by cold, I mean 65 degreesโ€ฆ I am a wimp ๐Ÿ˜‰ I actually took a blanket with me to class right now. Totally embracing my weakness! I love those coffee sleeve. Starbucks just got fancy new fall cup designs, and I love them! Hope you have a wonderful Wednesday ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m just not used to the cold weather yet so anything feels chilly to me! That’s such a good idea to bring a blanket to class – I need to start bringing one to my office because they blast the AC. I’ve seen the new fall cups but I have yet to get one! They are so cute! Happy Wednesday to you too ๐Ÿ™‚

That salad looks SO GOOD! I agree there is nothing more comforting than a bowl of oats. Also that dessert is too perfect…I used to always make home made popcorn and completely forgot about it, I will have to do that soon + the wine! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ahhh I hope the heat gets fixed super soonI I can so relate; last year in the dead of winter ours stopped working and luckily it got fixed within 24 hours. But in that short time I was over-dosing on warm food and blankets! Everything looks SO good ๐Ÿ™‚
